According to the news agency Reuters, a charity appeal set up for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance in the wake of the high-speed car crash involving Top Gear presenter Richard Hammond has fallen victim to an apparent hoax. The charity, which relies solely on donations to keep its helicopter in the air, is hoping to raise 500,000 pounds to pay for a second aircraft.
But the total reached on donations Web site justgiving.com has now fallen after one single gift of 50,000 pounds was declined by the donor's bank. Mick Lindley, operations manager at the air support unit at Yorkshire Air Ambulance described the setback as "disappointing".
